After not really seeing much all week I decided to take a walk behind my grandfathers house. With the fresh snow I got caught up with the coyote, fox and fisher tracks. I took a rest on a ridge and 2 does came along. Got the big one and missed the yearling when it stopped after I shot. When I was checking for blood I found a 3rd set of tracks about 100 yards back from where I shot the doe. It was a buck track and went back into the swamp. I used my Remington 7400 in .243. My Dad always thought that my little "Pop Gun" would wound deer but it shattered the front shoulder and ruptured the heart and then exited the other side. It ran about 20-25 yards and did a back flip over a log. looks like I'll be skinning a butchering instead of setting traps again.
