does anyone run their dogs during deer season?? would all the gut piles/blood trails, interfere with the hunting?? would they maybe make a dog start after deer? so far mine shows no intrest in chaseing deer.i want to keep it that way.

Zippy i never run my beagles during deer season here. I know your talking about coon. I think if a hound wants to run deer he/she will sure enough find one to run. The problem i see you could have is if your hound gets away from you for whatever reason and you cant get it back by daylight there are alot of "hunters" who might think about shooting it claiming its chasing deer. Thats not a risk i am willing to take with my dog. Just my .02

Here is an inexpensive way to break a dog of dear...this has worked with three of my hounds...(my grandpa did this). During deer season, if you get a deer and you know someone with an electric fence (farmer) take the wire and hook it up to the deer (wheter it be the head, leg, whatever) let the dog take a sniff of it..and bam, he gets a shocked...continue to allow the dog to "investigate" until he is afraid....seems a little morbid...but it sure has worked for us!

I dont believe you can do that legally. Maybe im wrong but i know with rabitts you cant run them between April 15-Aug.15th. Maybe coon is different,i would check first to make sure.

Yes clubs have special permits to run hounds. I used to belong to several beagle clubs. The only thing is the clubs had their own running grounds, none was done in the wild. I do believe that coon clubs can only run a certain time of the year on a permit.
