Hello,
New to trapping. Lifelong Hunter and recently bought a new house with a large swamp behind it. Received permission to trap and hunt in it. It’s loaded with beavers. I read a couple books, got all of the supplies I need and am ready to get started. Only thing in the way is how to prep my 330s. I got them rusting pretty good. Question is: do I dye and wax? Paint? I’ve read a lot of people warning against dying and waxing the 330 if I like my fingers. If not dye and wax, what kind of paint should I use? Rustoleum? Any and all tips are appreciated. Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

I simply dye mine if rusty, and even set them rusty before. Would recommend against waxing. Haven’t painted any of mine but may try that for next year.

I'm assumming you took your trapping course?
I use restoleum spray paint on my 330's. Use black or brown flat. Holds up well. If you had a ton of them it could get expensive, but a dozen or so is not bad.

Simply paint with cheap rattle cans or even brush with can oil based paint. Thin coats are better. I paint mine camo because I am painting my footholds at the same time. Stack them to save paint just trying to cover them so they don't rust completely.
I use allot of stabilizers especially in deep water just makes set up in channels allot easier. Make sure to wire or cable the trap to something solid.
Good luck and have fun trapping is infectious you will be land trapping soon and finding yourself waking up early to go see what you catch.

I use the cheap Walmart flat black spray paint to protect the steel, but use little to no spray where the trigger connects to the dog.You don't want that connection to be slippery.Absolutely no to waxing.I have worn a 330 on my wrist and between the pain and getting out of it there is no pleasure!
