Hey Guys,
Got geared up for trapping a few years ago but haven't pursued since early season competes with bowhunting. Anyway, I'd like to try to squeeze some coyote trapping sets between morning and afternoon treestand sits. Until I retire, I can only trap weekends. I'll be setting flat and dirt hole sets so my question is, should I leave the earth anchors at the set, disconnect the traps and take out or disperse the bait/lure/scents (as best as possible) when I leave at the end of the weekend - even though I'll be coming back and resetting the next weekend? Or should I pull the entire set and move locations, even if just a few yards away from the previous sets the following weekends? Appreciate your input.
Best regards,
JC

I’ve never trapped that way but I would think you could just disconnect and reset when you return. If private property, you could just snap the trap and leave until you reset.

Thanks for your response Tony. It will be tough since just as the set is 'settling down' I may then have to pull it. Not sure if leaving the trap sprung at the site would educate yotes by scenting it up as opposed to disconnecting it from the earth anchor so the set looks more natural.

Either disconnect the traps or leave them sprung, either way. I prebait by burying roadkill and let the critters tell me where to set the trap after a few days to weeks later, I set the earth anchors at that time and come back to set on opening day. It IS legal. Don't bother attempting to remove or disperse the lures or baits, it'll be an utter waste of time and effort. I've observed a small part of my trap line from my kitchen window where everything was pulled in December and the coyotes were still interested in the sets in March and April, maybe longer but I stopped paying attention, that was enough to educate me on the power of scents. And I'm of the Night Owl school of thought to begin with, LESS IS MORE. MUCH more...

Wouldn’t worry about spring traps being an issue. Have had canines dig all around sprung traps before when I couldn’t get back in to reset right away.

I forgot to mention, the ONLY lure/bait that those sets I mentioned received was when set on opening day, October 25th. 6 months +, not bad at all.
