The N.Y. State Assembly with all their wisdom(pun intended) passed legislation banning the use of lead ammo on all state lands. This was passed March 20. A05728 This is going before the N.Y. State Senate shortly. S5058
This is a blatant attack on all New York hunters, trappers, and sportsmen. Smells like the anti- hunting and anti- gun is behind this.
California banned lead bullets back in 1991. Look at that state now. No trapping as of 2019 and limited hunting. It all started with the ban on lead ammo.
With ammo shortages at a all time high now with lead bullets, this will stop many from going afield next year. The cost of having to use lead free bullets will be outrageous. Possibly even $100. a box if not more. Many of us, including myself, use rifles and shotgun handed down to us. These guns were used by our fathers and grandfathers and are our pride and joy during season. It is hard enough for me to find lead bullets for my Marlin 35 REM. since they do not make them anymore. I can guarantee many guns will become useless. As of now, only a few places manufacture lead free for 30-06 and 308, but these are even hard to find.
We cannot purchase on line w/o a FFL dealer.
The state brings in 12.2 billion dollars from sporting licenses and such. This law, if passed will reduce this amount substantially.
State wildlife management and funding will be gone. Licenses will have to increase to make up the difference. The increase will be outrageous.
Trappers…. What about your 22 ammo? If their is not lead free 22 ammo by then, what will you dispatch your animals with? What will be the cost of lead free 22 ammo? A box of 50 shells for $100.00? Unbelievable!!!!
Furthermore, what do we do with all the lead ammo we have now? I have a few rifles and handguns. I can’t afford to buy all new lead free ammo for them. Many of the guns are no longer made and the calipers are already hard to find ammo for. I have spent years finding ammo for these guns and now the State of New York, with all its wisdom, is basically saying I can’t use them anymore.
Lead bullets and shotgun pellets are a small unit compared to other major pollutants in this state. I use one bullet a year for taking a deer. C’mon people, be real. Look at those smoke stacks on businesses and the crap that’s released into the waterways in this state.
Lead DOES NOT breakdown or contaminate water as they claim. The only time it breaks down is when acid is introduced to it. PLEASE….... let New York State know we are strongly against this. Contact your Senators before it is to let and we become another California and all our rights as hunters and trappers are gone.
