Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone on here knew Vaughn Tingley? Vaughn was my great uncle and I am trying to find out any information about him that might be out there and or stories that someone might have that you would be willing to share. Vaughn passed away when I was 5 years old. My grandfather told me stories years ago and unfortunately I do not recall them. I have found some information about him online, but the information is scarce. I was able to locate a FUR-FISH-GAME magazine from January 1946 that he wrote an article in last week. I also have the trapping books that he had wrote. Any information would be greatly helpful. I am sort of putting a collage together in my house of him along with some homemade trapping decor that I am making. I appreciate anyone that might be able to help and look forward to conversing about trapping with everyone.

Go to Facebook and look up James Hanson....he is a NY guy but also a Trap and Trapping History Historian. If anyone has anything, it would be him.

I used to buy supplies from him when he was in Black Creek N.Y. He was great to talk to and helped me by answering a lot of questions. I always enjoyed going there and learning from him. Always a pleasant man.

When I was a teenager, just able to drive, VE Tingley was taking over the wholesale end of EJ Dailey's business in Lisbon, NY. On one of my trips to EJ's for supplies, EJ introduced me to Ting. I was invited to spend the day and learn some of the finer points of lure making. Ting was making a batch of his "Black Magic" and I was fortunate enough to spend that day learning not only how to make "Black Magic", but also many of the other products both he and Dailey produced and sold. I continued to deal with EJ and Ting until Dailey's death; after which I dealt with Tingley until he sold the Dailey side of the business to Gary Romaniew (sp?). I visited Tingley a couple of times after that at his then current home in Pennsylvania. Those were the "good old days" of the trapping era. I've probably forgotten more than I can now reiterate. VE Tingley was a great mentor and friend and a very good trapper and lure maker, and an absolute gentleman. I will never forget the help that he and EJ gave a young, aspiring trapper/lure maker/supply and fur dealer.

Did VE Tingley buy furs in Eldred, PA at one time? There was an older gentleman that I sold furs to as a kid and he always was nice enough to tell us how to do it better but always gave us something even though our furs were not done up properly. Still remember him to this day.

Thank you everyone for the responses to the thread. It's great hear what he did for the trapping community and the stories that go with it.

There was a fur/root buyer in Coudersport Pa that I sold skunk cabbage to and purchased wood coon boards from him. I believe he also worked blue stone in the spring/summer.

Ned Stark was the fur buyer in Eldred. He was quite a character. I sold fur to him several times.

Vaughn had a brother Bill who sold Vaughns's products and I always bought his buck lure. Best buck lure ever made.
