I had one stolen last year with a note left that said"you caught my kid so I took your trap". He had to drive around a posted sign to get to the set! That kid should be a real fine citizen, trespass then steal?! Still beaver trappin' now, will hope to get going on to the rest of my line next week?!

Very cool stuff Dino, would love to hear more about the tent brand and stove, and why that choice...when you get time of course. I commend you on your choice of evening beverage, KC is a fine bourbon. Looks like you're taking some fur!

I recently bought a 10x12 Panther Primitive wall tent that came with a large dining fly, and heavy canvas floor from a friend who guided me into the world of primitive rendezvous. I added a vestibule on one end to dry my furs.
I did a lot of research on a stove and went with a Cylinder stove (outback model). It’s been working out great! It can get hot enough where I need to open both tent doors. I fill it with rounds before heading to sleep and it’s still going in the morning! And it’s easy to cook on (it came with a 5 gallon SS water reservoir that connects to the side of the stove) and a heating tray.
… one big fat boar coon today! Out hunting with my flintlock the rest of the afternoon.
Good Luck!

Great looking camp! Can't believe you fit all that kit in your vehicle. That trip certainly took some planning. Looks like you won't starve and the bourbon will help ward off the chilly nights. Congratulations on the fur and hope you get your fisher.

Just home from the hospital at 6:30 so don't poke at typos. Had the MRIs on the 27th. Not good, lifetime of spine and head injury cumulative effect showed 2 places in my neck, pointin in opposite directions, where the spinal cord is supposed to be 20.0mm diameter it is 3.8mm and 3.7mm because of (calcified, decades old) disc ruptures. Yes, instead of being nearly an inch diameter it's a fingernail clipping at two spots they said. So made a consultation appointment with neurosurgeon for the 9th. Yes, yesterday. But on Thursday last I took another serious, maybe worst so far, fall, face-plant in the mud and head pushed back, terrible cracking sound and I was totally paralyzed. Believe in God or not, SOMETHING turned my head, at first I thought so I could breathe, but later found out that the sound was bone spurs completely pinching off the spinal cord at C5-C6, a new place, and the disc rupture there after my head was turned left caused additional spinal cord reduction to 3.6mm. But when I went down the cord was pinched off like a hose they said and my entire electrical system shut down, if not for the turning of the head no heart or lung activity would've even occurred. With my head now turned, I asked God for help, and after 5 minutes I could move the index and middle fingers of my left hand. NOTHING else. Not sound like much? No, unless it's all you have left and then it's the only hope... It took me almost an hour to be able to start standing up but the left arm incredibly weak and numb, left leg barely able to even swing. Stubborn, I made it into the house after another hour, took off hte muddy clothes, did a load of wash, went upstairs and fixed lunch, changed, by then the wash wwas done so in dryer, took more than 10 minutes to button my shirt. I knew I hadn't checked traps at the farm, I put out 9 fisher cubbies on the 27th, caught and put up a nice female and the big bait stealing weasel. So I drove the 9 mies to the farm, thank God for the 4-wheeler or I couldn't have checked, and checked & sprung the sets, just in case... then did a little work, only to see how extensive this fall reduced my limitations. By 4:55 family was screaming at me by text and phone to get to the doctor, I admit I was not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel this way, so I called him. He said ER, NOW, need new imaging, NOT GOOD, no one gets up from that. I said have to pick up prescriptions for daughter on my way home, get home clean up then wife and I going to daughter's for dinner, ok after that? He knows me and said, "AND THEN, YOU GO." So we did. Got to St. Luke's around 8PM, rushed in for CT scan, good night Mrs., go home, your husband will be our guest for some time. Emergency surgery scheduled one after the other, all bumped until 2PM on the 9th. But, on Friday morning when the 4 guys on neurosurgical team came in to talk to me, I had just seconds before laid down on the bed after having walked my half-mile, done exercises, read a little, had breakfast and then did another half mile (believe me they were horrible, my legs were nearly trash by then but I didn't want to lose anything more and as long as I could still move I was going to) before laying down. Anyways when they walked in and saw me, the hospitalist was already there alking with me, the surgeon said "Where is his head brace, and where are his restraints?!" I jumped off the bed and said the only head brace was the one they gave me in the ER, it's in the closet let me get it. They literally jumped back shouting WHOA WHOA WHOA HOW ARE YOU DOING THIS?!?! I stopped, got a little scared, the surgeon came over and gently helped me sit in the v isitor chair and said, "This is impossible. Those images, you, this is not possible. We in no way expected to find you this way." He knelt on the floor to do those "strength test" things with squeeze his fingers etc., the other guys also took knees to look things over. The the surgeon stood up, stretched his arms to his sides closed his eyes and at first whispered "This is a miracle..." then said, "Let no one here doubt that this is an unquestionable God intervention. This reality," he said as his left hand brushed against the report one of the assistants was holding, "and THIS reality," he said as he pointed at me, "are not reconcilable, not on earth. This is heaven." And word spread. So ma ny long stories. I'm glad it wasnt just immediately Thurssday night. I wou;d've forever griped and complained that I never got to ask a second opinion, etc. But this way, with so man y things they said aren't possible, we;re hoping the strength I started this out with bodes well for prognosis. The surgery went well, the "reality" was far worse they said than the imaging showed because of the ages of the injuries. Very possible that in a year's time I will regain some movement and repair in areas I hadn't been aware I'd lost. It's agony, I was supposed to be discharged Wednesday at 2, then 3, then 4, ...I'm home, the day after radical cervical spine and spinal cord surgery, I haven't slept since coming out of surgery on Tuesday because I'm afraid of turning my head forcefully in the head brace and ruining it all. I'm typing this because I'm NOT going to bed without giving God the glory first, and because I'm scared to sleep, I hurt worse than in my life and I'm trying to make myself too tired to stay awake. I can only sleep on my back at 30 degrees from horizontal. I cannot sleep on my back I get claustrophobic then panic attacks uncontrollable and I can't breathe. The drugs and general anesthesia mess with my sleep too. I know I may feel foolish when at some point I come back and re-read this and maybe wish I hadn't written it but I had to now. Believe in God or don't, I do and always have.

I can't lift more than 5 pounds, can only take off brace to showere and dress, no driving not because they dont; think I can but becaus e"not legal" with the brace on. Going to be a burden on family for rides to appointments, errands. Have to make arrangements for snow removal. 3 to 5 weeks minimum at 5 pound limit and brace. 6 weeks, hopefully, to 80%, 3 months, hopefully, to full recovery. But my trapping and hunting seasons are pretty much over for this season. Here's looking to maybe my best ever, next year. Not griping, but grateful. Still too scared to sleep...

Thanks Jim. I am. And to all, my - apologies? no, but all the same sorry for the "gushing" or whatever. It was quite a ripper of a week. Trapping update: The farm adjacent to ours was purchased by a young couple a year ago. He always wanted to learn to trap, his brother traps a very little. But he's never taken the the time to do more than get the training and his license, haven;'t been able to find mutual time for me to train/mentor him. Until this whole spinal thing happened! So, I had an idea, he swaps out MY traps at my sets on my land with his traps. His brother had the right kind and number of traps except the brother;s name ID etc, I told him go get the write-your-own tags and do it right first time every time all the time. He did, his brother helpd him with setting. I'm proud to announce that this morning around 10:00 he called me from the trapline to report "a huge male fisher in that stone cubby you said was so good!" Huge? Hmmm, send me a pic... HUGE. I've caught some that made my jaw drop, but this one beats any of mine ever. What a great way to recover lol! I'm hoping for even more success for him. This is cool. Oh, and ALL of the help he got from me was over the phone, video chat, etc. His brother said he was learning a good bit as well. Maybe a new tool for the future.

I recently got back from my annual trapping trip in Northern NY. Had a great time and put up a wide variety of fur. A friend put a nice video together for me…I attached the link below if you would like to see my camp and fur. Take care! Dino m.youtube.com/watch?v=_rVaacZZ6Uc

WOW. Simply fantastic, but what else is to be expected from you, Dino? Except, I don't think porcupine qualifies as a furbearer, I may be wrong lol, and where's the obligatory POSSUM?!?!?! Honestly, just a tremendous video, I loved it all. Well done.

Thanks Tim! Possum are rare where I was trapping but if there was one around, I’m sure I would have caught it!! Porky got a free pass and left me with some quills in my glove…I skinned, put up, and “tanned” my last porky…it was a bit challenging for me to get it fleshed, and after a couple years of it hanging in the trapping shed, I needed to get rid of it. Hope you are feeling better!

Nice video Dino The variety of critters you caught is awesome. How did you like the tow hitch fleshing board set up? It looks like a great idea. 21 days out there seems fantastic and a great way to find yourself. Thanks for sharing your experience
