Called Warrensburg last week, got Martin Permit AND Fisher Permit today -NO Problem. The DEC Reps at the Trappers Convention promised one of my recent nuisance clients a Beaver Permit soon as he returned to Watertown- never happened. I had my client go to the Herkimer Office on 14 September, he came back with the permit in hand. Five beavers removed, two dams opened, water levels back to normal, and as of 24 September no notice of returning beavers. Checked with client today, beaver problem solved and still no response from Watertown DEC. Moral...call responsible office for Martin/Fisher permits as instructed on page 64 of the new Hunting Trapping booklet given free when buying your license. The DEC Reps at the Conventions are detailed for mainly Public Relations, not business problems and should have referred you to Warrensburg as they are the only ones issuing the Martin/Fisher permits. On a good note ...There is no requirement for any carcasses or parts to be kept this year for the DEC lab.

Got mine today. No carcasses for marten or fisher needed. Activity log for marten only. No single “wire on furbearer possession tags“ for marten, otter, fisher, or cat. Possession “tag” is a sheet of paper and you add each one you take to the paper with the needed info. Only one species on each sheet, but they only give you 2 sheets. I guess you should make a few copies before filling out so you will have enough for marten, fisher, otter, and cat. I think that’s how it works. I hope.

I’m pretty sure you need to get the pelts sealed.
DEC told me they mailed my nuisance license the other day…I submitted paperwork on Sept 1. Hopefully it arrives soon…need to deal with some critters. I think they are a bit understaffed.

I never received my bowhunters log this year. Did anyone else get one? Last year I received my 25 year patch for participation. I liked doing it, was good for reminding me how much time I spent and what I saw.

Called Warrensburg today and talked to a biologist. Furbearer possession tags this year are a piece of paper where you list on the paper- fisher, marten, otter, and cat with all the necessary info. Trouble is, only one species can be listed on each paper. They only send you 2 pieces of the paper tag. He said to make copies of that paper if you want to make sure you have one for all 4 species needing a tag. I just wanted to make sure since this year is kinda crazy with all the updates and I hate not having everything in order. Thought you all should all know.

New to trapping this year and was wondering if anyone had clarification on this. The one species per possession tag is pretty clear to me, but where I get lost is the DEC hunting and trapping guide reads: "Possession tags must stay with the animal or pelt at all times, but they do not need to be attached to the pelt". Do I need to bring a fresh possession tag for each species every time I check traps? Or do you use the same tag for the same species until it is full? "At all times" would mean that the tag needs to remain with the pelt once it is out of the woods and gives the impression that it should remain with the pelt in the fur shed and then a new one is taken and completed the next time you go out.

If it was me, and not saying this is correct, I would have a tag in my truck and one at home in the fur shed. I take a fisher, fill out the truck tag when I get back to my truck. I get home, and my 2nd tag is in the furshed. I fill out the furshed tag, leaving the truck tag in the truck, the shed tag in the shed. Just repeat this for every fisher. At the end you have two tags all filled out, toss one. You could even cross out each entry on the truck tag after you transferred posession to the shed tag.

Can't believe that thought never crossed my mind. I guess my brain is pretty fried from living in NY all these years...
