if you are talking about the NYS Trapping FB site, Von and Mike Finn are admins that clear member requests. Check with them. I believe I recommended you before into "pending" status. Security is required to prevent antis and other undesirables (previously banned) from entry here. Nobody wants repeatedly banned trolls from polluting our conversations endlessly. We nip that sh^t in the bud, one time only Thank You !! Sorry but I left that site. You'll have to wait for Von to see the request. Mike

Nice job on those rats Austin! I'm as tired of repeating it as everyone is of reading it, but the adverse weather changes remain relentless. Spent the day setting open-water ditches, still waters in marshes are frozen enough to walk on with clear, bare ice. If it'd stay cold for five days, could line bubble runs with sets. If warm-up, could crush with footholds. But instead the forecast is several inches of ice, slush and snow Tuesday, followed by rain Tuesday night. Then 40s Thu & Fri.
In other words, a sloppy shut-down mess. Every week of our season, all eleven from open to close, just like this

coni continues to pull 40s / 50s rats daily off the NYS muskrat mecca thru this inclement weather. On a per-acre basis of surface water, he may have the densest muskrat population anywhere in NYS or elsewhere. But that doesn't mean it's easy... he is working his a** off daily. Told me yesterday on the phone that he is feeling a bit burnt out and may knock off early before the scheduled 2/28 close. I laughed and replied that always sounds good during the exhausted ride home. But one day of sitting at home with stakes pulled while season is open, and our rodent addiction can't stand that!
Once this two-day weather dump of snow - sleet - rain - more snow completes its cycle, I'll have a few sets in tomorrow and pulled Friday. Then I have a weekend worth of muskrat ADC work (free, no charge) for some landowner friends I can finally get to afterwards. When winter breaks and water opens again, I might play around in the northern zone a bit just for fun. It ain't over until it's all over, everywhere
stay tuned

[text copy/paste from FB]
Trapping season 2018-19 officially came to an end yesterday, in my immediate area. West and south of me a bit, beavers remain open thru 3/15. Further north a few hour's drive, beaver/otter thru 4/07 and muskrat/mink thru 4/15.
Wrapped up with several hundred muskrats and three male mink. An unusually low number of mink... fewest I've caught in more than a decade while running full water lines. Nor did I see many fresh tracks until this month of Feb when males starting roaming widely along every trickle and drop of water.
I did see otter sign all season long, everywhere. Including this pair of adults drilling into live muskrat houses on the Conesus Lake WMA, about 200 yards off West Lake road. Lots of otter there, and I watched two state biologists checking overland trails, take scale samples for study. Can only expect that's all for opening an all-season, no-limit trapping season here across NYS. Same as there is up north. Otters have obviously saturated their available habitat here, there will never be a higher carrying capacity than right here, right now. So time to lay the hammer on them statewide π¨π¨
**
Soon as moving waters open up in the 3/15 close beaver zones, I'll drop a few #330s for travelers along the Genesee River. Might play a bit more where rats are open thru spring if circumstances permit. We'll see. Good news is, my last two sets checked yesterday each held big male rats. Always nice to end a season like that.
Had a great time, learned much and made forever memories. What it's all about. Looking forward to future lines, as always π€

already suffering from trap-check withdraw. Spent half the day driving Rt 19 south along the Genesee River scouting for beaver sign. Might get a chance to float the canoe and build mud pies behind #330s before 3/15 season ends down there.

I'll catch you at one or two of those shows, see if you have some used steel for sale that I need to get wet next season.

"you were always on my mind..." Regardless what time of year, thoughts of muskrats are always in the back of my mind. If not front The local ditch that I wiped clean of all muskrats from end to end last season had no fewer than eight (8) live sightings yesterday... four pairs swimming in circles, nose to tail. πΈ I'm gonna guess they are busy doing rodent things and the re-population of this shallow flow is currently underway. See y'all again on 11/25 this fall π€
