Hope this doesnt sound too dumb, but another newbie question. I assume urines (coyote, fox etc) have some sort of shelf life and after a while become ammonia smelling and turn off the predators? I used to use a lot of deer gel lures a while ago when bowhunting and one of the suppliers told me to add a pinch of kosher salt to the lure which would neutralize the ammonia and the smell as the lures got older. It seemed to work just fine. I was wondering about the urines? Do you guys worry about that or do you just buy enough to get you thru the season and start over again next year? Assume the urines go bad so no sense in stockpiling for next season?

I normally buy just enough to get me through the year, then buy new next year. This year I bought more than I used, so I am storing in a cool dry place out of the sun. I heard that it should keep just fine till next year. I guess I will find out.......

I use lures from the 70,s every season with excellent results, not sure about urine life.

Clean collected good urine will last for years if stored in a cool, dark area in glass. The ammonia is natural in urine. All urine has it and it will dissipate shortly after you apply it at your set. Having said that if you are only talking about a pint or so it is cheap enough to replace if you feel more confident in fresh stuff every year.

Tonquin from the 40's could quite possibly contain at least some authentic deer musk tinctured from the pods. Now only synthetic musk is on the market. Still there are varying degrees of strength depending on who does the bottling. That is a nice collectable and value for you.
