Schenectady Conservation Council sent me an e-mail that stated "A bill has been pre-filed in the NYS Senate by Senator Nozzolio for hunting coyotes, S06221. If passed and signed into law, this would establish an open season on coyotes provided the county legislature passes a resolution authorizing such hunting. Contact your state senator urging to sign on this bill as a co-sponsor." Similar bills have been introduced several years now with no traction, but this is the first year I know of where they propose leaving hunting season dates up to a county legislature. I doubt they will find any supporters at DEC and it will probably die again, but it's concerning to even see such proposals. County legislatures have no business in this area. I am really not sure what they even hope to accomplish by this legislation, but with each downstate coyote "attack" we're one step closer to this gaining support. Here's the link: Year round coyote legislation proposal

Coyotes are a fur bearing species. I sincerely hope that DEC fights this ridiculous idea and keeps the local idiots out of any decision making process on this matter.

I lives in his district. Have already contacted Gene VanDeusan who is the President of the NYS Houndsmen Assa. and he lives in Norzzolios district also and Gene has worked with Nozzolio in the past on issues. We both strongly suspect that the deer hunters from another county in the district, other than Wayne, has got him to file this bill. Will be talking about this at our next county federation meeting Dec. 15th 7:00 at the Sodus Bay Sportsmens Club. In the past Nozzolio has always been on the right side of sportsmens issues. How many agree with me that the deer hunter has become a bigger issue in common since game management than the anties?

How many counties in NY? How many different rules? Who wants to keep track? I say one rule not multiple. If you chase a coyote across a county line you don't want to worry about a rule change.

They (Deer Hunters) have caused more polarity and divisiveness among outdoor enthusiasts than any other group. Sadly, very few of them need the meat. It's all about the ego, and it's become a rich mans sport.
