I recently took a few days to trap beaver and muskrat on a swamp by some family members. I was hoping to do better but ended up with 2 beaver and 12 muskrats along with lots of new knowledge and sore muscles! This is my first attempt at beaver put up and I am looking for some criticism on what I could have done better. The face was definitely a challenge and I put a couple holes toward the outside but I think it was decent. Thanks for any input.

Yep, looks good. You can pin those holes shut so they dry without opening up more.

For a first attempt you did very well. the pucker in the leg areas can be fixed when wet by trimming a little leg hide fur back.
but all in all you did well.

I went out and nailed the holes shut tonight, thanks for the tip. I tried to clean skin this one the best I could with fairly good results, the other beaver I caught was very rough skinned and fleshing was a disaster. Hope to get out my first k-9 sets later this week or early next week so hopefully you'll be hearing about my first fox or coyote sometime this season. Thanks again.

Looks good for your first (or second) attempt. And clean skinned too! It's nice that you're leaning that right off the bat.
Good luck with the canines!
