Has anyone ever tried and had any success with a honeycomb/honey set ? Its something i have been pondering and was curious if its actually a productive set and would setting a dirt hole up to look like a ripped open ground hive with a chunk of comb and a nice honey drizzel on top work for fox coyote or am i just begging for skunk and dry land coon ?

That set is listed in Hawbakers book Trapping North American Furbearers. I feel that it's a gimmicky type of set. It works fine and I suppose if your target animals are shy of dirtholes and flat sets, it's probably a decent change up. I've tried it, in an area where there were already bee boxes from a bee keeper. I caught a couple reds with it and of course a very wily Opossum. I feel you can catch a fox or a coyote with a peanut butter sandwich if it's in the right location. Back in the day when Hawbaker and those older trappers were writing how-to books, I think they dreamed up a ton of crazy sets just to fill the pages in a book and make it more appealing to readers. Remember the campfire set? That's another one that comes to mind when I think of gimmicky sets.
