I believe the man with the beard was trying to be funny he has a dry sense of humor. That gentleman sat at the booth most of the weekend, did not see any demos, and was there Sunday morning taking down tables and chairs in all 3 buildings. It's always the same people working the convention

I am sorry if you were offended! I know the person you talked to and it was not intentional. He has a dry sense of humor, at times and after sitting at the booth for several hours can get boring. The banter with others at the booth may have contributed to the mood, thus resulting in the comment made to you. Again, accept our apology and please reconsider renewing your membership. Please don't let your bad encounter sour you on NYSTA and those that work tirelessly for the benefit of all trappers! If you want to talk to me, send me a PM.

Guy with a beard rubbed you the wrong way, so you won't support trapping in NY. What a piss poor excuse. And those of us who are members....are you looking for us to agree with your decision? Wrong forum.

So if the cashier at the ONLY grocery store in town made a bad joke would you stop buying food and starve? By not supporting the New York State Trappers Association, that's basically what you're doing as we are the ONLY trapping organization in the state that works 365 days of the year to support & defend YOUR right as a trapper. Without your support and the other 10,000 trappers in NY that aren't members, the day will soon be upon us that we will fall to the ranks of Washington, Colorado, California, Florida and other states where trapping is either not allowed, or so regulated/restricted that you won't be able to trap. Just some food for thought......

fwiw: there are several NYS trappers who I used to consider friends until that recently changed over things that were written & said. But regardless all else, if I had to renew my membership thru any of them I would without hesitation, because one issue has no bearing on the other. They are no longer considered friends, but that doesn't mean I'd reject a third-party offer due to such. Truth is, the only ones you are hurting by boycott are yourself and all the other solid members out there who count on collective support. Forget about personal slights perceived or otherwise, and get on with your life... which includes membership in NYSTA

I have had differences of opinions with several people over the years and it has only made me a stronger supporter of NYSTA and the NTA.. Debbie also.
If you took offence to one person, Well...

As an organization, we are cash strapped! The NTA and NYSTA conventions are our biggest money makers. As such, is it feasable to accept credit cards? I would vote NO as there is an added cost to every transaction , the amount varies from 2.6% up to 6+% depending on the card. It may not seem like much, but over time it adds up! Most vendors don't take credit cards. It cuts into their profit margins, and for some those margins are very thin!
If you read that you could renew with a credit card, it was on the website and it is tied to PayPal.
That being said, if coming to a trapping convention, bring cash! Some vendors may take a check, but then only if they know you!

I guess it's like I wrote in my other post, above, I knew Dale and he greeted me with a big old hello and that was great. Was that the reason I renewed? No, my intention was to renew first thing I walked through the gate, pay cash to the one organization that takes that money and puts it to work for me and all of us. Of course I was there for other things - demo's, traps, supplies, etc. - but the plain fact is if it weren't for NYSTA there wouldn't even have BEEN a convention to go to for all that other stuff in the first place. First things first, renew at once and use the first money for it so there's no possibility of being broke and then NYSTA gets the shaft. Not taking one side or the other, but if I didn't like the way I was treated, I'd confront the individual directly and ask HIM what he meant by that remark, and I'll betcha we'd have worked it out face-to-face. If not, there were at least two other men manning the table I could've gone to and complained if I thought that would help, and sure as shootin' THEY would have taken care of my renewal and maybe even helped to make peace. Just a thought, that's all. I know what it's like, I'm probably the worst offender for doing and saying dumb stuff (don't everybody agree all at once, you'll crash the server) but waiting to complain about it until getting on here two days later got nothing done including a much needed renewal cash infusion. As I said, I'm not piling on, there's plenty of that already but I think it's a good lesson learned for how better to handle it if there ever is a next time. I sure hope everyone renews that is a member, and those who aren't - well, sign your butts up, freeloaders!!! And then renew next year. And a new rule should be that everyone shaves their beard so no one knows who's who at the table! lol! awright awright I'm goin'...
