What's the obsession? Mb 550 450 and so on...all seem like overkill for ny trapping? Why does everyone like them is there a advantage I'm missing?
And the price:(

I am not familiar with the 450, but I do like the 550 reason being after working a 12hr shift and coyotes has been banging them all day I know all I have to do is reset and a remake. Duke , sleepy creek, Bridger And victor I've had to go back to truck and replaced the trap. Do the 550 break am sure, but I have not had bad experience with them .I am not a trap connoisseur .Are they the best trap no, do the other traps work absolutely .They are pricey but fixing base plates and dogs is time and money. My thinking is pay me now or pay me later.Again it's just my opinion.o

stonearm2006 I deleted your last post.
What you need to do is learn proper anchoring practices for what ever you are catching.

Ok how is 24 in rebar not ok to secure a trap for coyotes? Obviously I am no longer doing this but explain how the setup was wrong?

1 I don't know what your soil conditions are like. When I used rebar I also used 24 inch stakes but I crossed staked. I used two of then in an x shape. there is a connector that you can get that make this system easy to do. I also used short chain.seemed to keep cyote on the ground not giving it room to jump to pump stakes up and out.
Cable stakes are another option as well as drags.

See I always thought longer stakes instead so they couldn't get the leverage learn something new daily....and I have sence switched to cable earth ancors

Longer chain...not stakes

Factory chain lengths work fine with cable stakes. Cable stakes work best when pulled to the side but can fail if pulled straight up, in loose soil, like muck lands. Short chains are best with rebar stakes. This type of stake can loosen up if the chain is long, allowing the animal to work the stake out while fighting.

No, what Jim said was, a cable stake is most solid when the captured animal is pulling it to the side. They are more easily compromised when they are being pulled back in the direction that they were driven. Especially when the soil is loose or mucky.

I'm new to trapping and bought a couple last year as well as this year. Yes they're expensive, but worth every penny. Very heavy duty, no tweaking needed. Ready to go right out of the box. Night latch is perfect. Once you hear the click, the pan is perfectly level.

Yea I get the traps are nice but the Bridgers I bought are real nice also for half the price...I do think the cast jaw is a nice feature but I'd if it's worth the extra 100 a dozen for it...just wanted opinions on them and appreciate the feed back

Also, be careful of the new 550's out of the box. The springs are different and I had to bend the dogs much like the 450's to get the correct pan tension. New ones are like 5# and I don't think I would catch fox like I did last year without adjusting.
