While reading the recent Trappers post article by Bob Noonan about the Raccoon boom, I couldn't help but wonder if we are seeing the beginning of the Fisher boom?
Did the reintroduction of the Fisher into the Southern Tier of New York and Pennsylvania cause the explosion in numbers? Has exposing them to easy prey and easier winters allowed them to flourish in areas they were not present, or very scarce? Has the abundant food sources in these areas caused them to reproduce in greater annual numbers than in their past home ranges?

The fisher in the southern tier are the result of natural expansion from other areas and Pennsylvania. There was no reintroduction. I believe the abundance of food along with so much farmland reverting back to farmland is the primary reason..Can't speak to any increased reproduction ability. I don't know about a fisher "Boom"; that is so dependant upon the foreign markets, but it will be nice for that area's trappers an opportunity to harvest a different species.

Fisher were reintroduced into the Catskills, aren't they part of the Southern Tier ?

Adirondack fisher were reintroduced into the Catskills about thirty some odd years ago. I've always considered the southern tier as the counties bordering Pennsylvania from Binghamton west; not the Catskill counties.
