On the ride in today, the radio guy was talking about a new DEC regulation. If you are fishing, and catch a lunker, but is out of season, and you take a 'selfie' before returning to the water, you are subject to a $250 fine and up to 15 days in jail ! So, does that mean when you come into the dock you will be asked for your camera?

This not surprising as long as the DEC is affiliated with the government our rights will continue to be depleted as outdoors man/women. DEC has to be separate entity in which there sole purpose is to manage our natural resources and not be influenced by politics until that happens plan on losing more of your rights . Just plan on being an outlaw because soon everything we enjoy will be against the law to do. Getting closer to time when there is going to be an uprising in this state and I have a feeling it will not be pretty.

In the regs:
"General Regulations Taking and Possession of Fish
General Take and Possession •A person may not fish for a species (even if immediately released) during the closed season for that species on a given water. Fish caught during the closed season must be unhooked and released immediately. They may not be handled for any other purpose, including taking a photo."

What B.S. Who do these people think they are? Gestapo? S.S.? In the fisher proposed new rules and regs trappers in many of the WMU's are required to apply for a "Revocable" fisher permit. I contend that if a person has a legal trapping license they should have the right to trap any species. The "threat" of revocation is absolute horse s*#@! These permits only serve to give biologists alleged information. From what I have seen, the permits are nothing but a d@mn nuisance and if DEC thinks they are getting credible information they are sadly incorrect. As for their permits, surveys, and veiled threats they can wipe their butts with them! DEC is going too far with all of this crap, including taking a photo of a fish. And they wonder why we are losing all respect? ?

Dear Mr. Mole, Probably won't be long and we will have to get approval from some agency before posting pictures on this site! I'd compliment you on the nice fish, but fear I might get arrested for doing so. Regards

Its about revenue in my opinion. Just another way to collect a fine. the Dec shocked the Ashokan reservoir a few weeks back to do a fish count and a 17 lb. female walleye was captured. There was also a picture taken of this fish !!!! I wonder if their were any fines levied on anyone involved in such a despicable act? They must have very little to do to worry about pics of fish on facebook. This state and its policies are becoming a bigger joke by the day.

The reasoning for clarifying the point of "no pictures" as part of an existing regulation has nothing to do with the average guy that accidentally catches a big fish out of season. It is because of people targeting fish out of season and posting "hero pics" of sturgeon and true muskies... Not the guys that catch an early walleye while perch fishing or some other incidental catch.

I can see it with bass. You take a bass off it's nest and it doesn't take long for the perch etc that she's been fending off to raid her nest.

I'm okay with the regulation as long as it is applied evenly...Fish specie that are endangered should not be hoisted and photographed solely as a "hero pic"
