Lifetime NYSTA now. Looking to Join FTA or NTA lifetime soon but am debating after seeing some threads on here showing where the NTA is putting the monies. Prob will go for FTA first. Being new any guidance or opinions would help us newer people.

I've heard less than 10% of NY Trappers belong to NYSTA according to License sales and membership #s. Not sure of NTA % but I'm sure it must be very low.

I haven't heard much good about them and would like a member to chime in and let me know there opinion.

Can someone give me a reason to join the NTA other than as Mac said to go to the demo's? I haven't heard much good about them and would like a member to chime in and let me know there opinion. Numbers matter to politicians. When the NTA sends a letter opposing/supporting a bill or law and is able to state that they represent 100,000 members in 50 states it gets more attention than the 5000 or 6000 (No idea what the actual number is) that have taken the time to become members. The NTA assists states when they come under fire from the anti's. I know they sent a substantial donation to California Trappers Association to assist in the limiting of the 2013 Bobcat Protection Act. We have to be tolerant of all these "alternative" lifestyles, however when we ask for a little tolerance for our interest, we are vilified. We simply want the freedom to pursue our passion(s). We will have to become a vocal minority if we hope to secure trapping for future trappers. Part of being a vocal minority is having a unified voice and organization. Trappers are poorly organized, look at NY, how many local associations are there, how many of those actually agree with each other and present a united front against encroachment on trapping? They all compete for membership, they all compete for trappers dollars, the result is a disorganized and disjointed effort to stop bad laws/management plans/initiatives.
