This year I started out getting 12 Duke #2 and 12 Duke dp's. I want to get better traps next year. Seems that Mp 550, bridger and Victor are good quality. What way should I go. I have taken fox with #2s, but I would like to get something that I don't have to adjust in the field, something a little better grade. I have no complaints with the Dps

Bridger No.2 Dogless KB 5.5's And, IN MY OPINION ONLY, I very much like the old-school double longsprings. They're heavier, bulkier, blah blah blah to carry around but they can be (AGAIN IMO) more easily bedded. ...hmmm, that didn't come out right. Sleepy Creek No.2 double longsprings are under $140/dozen, last I checked. I could go on about them, but you already know that.

butch , I would suggest you go to convention and look at the used traps. If you cant or don't want to buy expensive you don't have to. I use some old North Woods and bridgers. some swivels and chain and a little work on pan and dog and you are in business.

first year trapper so i don't have alot of experience to give. but i did spend the money on mb 550's, great trap i think, possibly little much for reds. only caught a couple and no yotes. mb 550's i didn't have to adjust anything. i ordered 450's got 3 in the ground waiting to see how they work.

I pretty much have MB 550s. I bought a dozen and a half Sleepy Creek 1-3/4 this year. They both are nice traps. Both held big coyotes well. S/c's will require pan adjustments, but I like em.

I bought my first mb 550's this summer and put them to use on the line this fall. They are a great trap, right out of the box. The only mods. I did were to check and adjust pan tension. I would certainly recommend them to anyone canine trapping. However, the vast majority of my traps are of various makes, and were purchased used from various sources. The balance are cheap old dukes.
I, also, would suggest you look for some used traps at the convention, outdoor shows, yard sales, craigslist, etc, etc... There is a lot of good steel out there, cheap, if you look hard enough. Especially with the fur market as volatile as it has been the last few years. Most are all modified and ready to go, And while I truly love the new 550's for the coyotes, I still set way more 1 3/4 size Dukes for fox and love them as well. They are 1/3 the money and catch just as much fur. Learn to do your mods, if you haven't already, and the cheapest traps will catch you as much fur as the big money traps will.
