I would like to try and make some bait for K-9 trapping this fall. I have some beaver and muskrat in the freezer an would like to know the best way to let it taint. What do you put it in to taint, how long do you let it go? I plan on preserving it with sodium benzoate and adding a little bacon grease and castor to some. Any help is appreciated.

I'm by no means a great bait maker but I don't taint my beaver. I tainted it once and caught a record number of opossums and skunks. Since not tainting the meat my possum and skunks numbers are down to one or two a year.

Thanks for the advise I would rather avoid the skunks and grinners. I will try fresh meat. I have also read about using the trimmings from horse hooves and my brother in law is a cow hoof trimmer so I am going to try and make a concoction from the cow hoof trimmings

Dear Friend, Most of the trapping supply houses sell food grade glycerin in pints, quarts, 1/2 gallons and gallons. Im pretty sure I saw some on Mr. Nightowls table at Zerbe. Regards
