lol, not really. But, I'm having a better catch rate than I ever had with other traps during real seasons! I've had a severe critter problem for a long time, around the barns and in the fields at the farm, but since this past spring it's gotten REALLY bad. Over an acre of green beans out of 11 acres planted have been completely eaten by woodchucks, and now the babies are out there eating along with momma and papa and many momma's have got another litter coming on. So, about a month ago I set out 6 live-catch traps around the buildings and wherever I found woodchuck dens. The "season's" catch so far (as of 8:30 last night):
11 Gray squirrels
4 Red squirrels
9 Chipmunks
3 Raccoon, including one with a bald, scarred face that reminded me of the King Kong in the latest remake, only had 1/2" stub of a tail; all were released.
5 Corn snakes, all over 30" long (released, I love snakes)
1 wood rat
2 Skunks (released, one without spraying P-U!)
More than 40 mice and moles in mouse traps in the barns/buildings
AND - yessireebob, now for the woodchuck totals:
29 woodchucks. One was the biggest I've ever seen, a huge old male. I didn't put him on a scale but he had to be more than 18 pounds. I hate to say it, but his pelt was gorgeous. Not like any others I've ever seen at all.
That's 64 critters, no "doubles," lol! In 6 traps in a little over a month. Averages out to more than 10 per "set," about one every three days. Not counting the mice, which would bring the total to well over 100.
All of the raccoon, skunks, snakes and gray skwerlz were caught as they gained entry to buildings. All the rest were caught in the field locations around the farm.
I don't have time to hunt the whistle pigs, so that's why I've been trapping them.
Since these were live-catch, I don't think it violates the ban on non-target catches. If it does violate the rules, please delete and notify me so that I learn properly. Thanks.
But, bottom line is I think I'll be putting those live-catch traps to a lot more use during season.
