Is it alright to use the pine boards from a lumber yard when making stretcher boards. What about the knots.

I have used pine to make boards before I bought basswood (linden) stretchers without any issues. Some guys have said sap coming from the knots could cause problems, but i have not had any problems. I still use them when I run out of boards. The main thing is to try and get the thinnest boards possible IMO.

butch, pine is alright but the less knots the better definitely none that are ozzing pitch.basswood is the species of choice because it tends to be clear, and is cheaper than clear pine ,light, and easy to work with.check with a local sawmill they might be able to saw you what you need if not they may be able to send you to someone who can.
