My Turtle Trapping letter sent To assemblymen Bill Magee:

Subject: Regarding Bill #2490
Date: Sunday, May 19, 2013 9:21 PM
Dear Mr Assemblyman William Magee,
I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for sponsoring Bill #2490 which provides for the use of turtle traps in New York State waters to help in the Management and Responsible Harvest of a Sustainable portion of the Surplus Snapping Turtle Population in the Empire State.
With the protections that New York State's Snapping Turtle populations have enjoyed over the last decade, there is a major surplus population of these turtle throughout New York State.
While a protection of the Majority of our turtle populations is and has been an Admirable Goal, there is ample room for a sustainable harvest of our surplus Snapping Turtle population to maintain a healthy balance between these predators and other wildlife populations such as waterfowl, fish, muskrats and other aquatic mammals.
The Legal use of Turtle traps will give us the tools we need to responsibly and scientifically manage Snapping turtles for the Over-all health of Our Wild Ecosystem.
As a New York State Resident, Citizen Tax-Payer, and Voter, I am very concerned for the Overall health of Our Eco-System and support a healthy balance in the predator-prey relationship of our wildlife.
As a Yearly Buyer of New York State Sporting Licenses for Trapping, Fishing, and Hunting, I have a vested interest in the overall health of the Wildlife Resources throughout the State and this Turtle Trapping initiative will go a long way in helping to restore the needed balance between Snapping Turtles and other wildlife.
I am sure you will agree that the Management of our Wildlife Resources using a Scientific Common-Sense Approach based on the Hard Data collected and complied by the Professional Biologists and Technicians of the DEC Bureau of Wildlife,
Is a far better outcome than an Emotionally based Approach, Quite often submitted by Non-New York State Residents, or other Persons or Organizations Far-removed From the Reality-Based Science of Wildlife Management here in New York State.
Please consider this letter one of overwhelming support for bill #2490, and I Thank you once again for being a sponsor of this legislation.
Sincerely
