Wondering what your opinions are on the different jaw types. When to use let's say, offset vs standard, lam vs not, double jaw vs single or if really makes any difference??

I have went from standard jaws, to off set jaws, now I am beginning to laminate my jaws... I think off set laminated jaws are best, but standard offsets will work just fine...

Guess I'm just not sure of the benefit of off set other than they allow the jaws to close a bit more and levers to rise more?? Maybe I should have asked what is the purpose of, off set jaws? Lams?

Thicker jaws displace the force of the closing and more holding surface--------the offset adds to the strength and reduces the pressure on the animals foot add rubber and things really change, I've rethunk a lot of my opinions and will again still playing with different systems----------it's a good time to be a trapper!!-Tom

the purpose of offset jaws are pretty much as you stated to allow the levers to raise up higher... provide a better lock up... some offset traps like the sterling and hiembrock traps for example allow for 100 percent lock up and the full power of the springs to be exerted... without the sissor effect of the spring levers not being able to reach there full potental, or lock up position... somewhat important with coyote or k9 trapping, but generally overlooked... all offsets traps arnt created the same, in my mind, to me, some offsets, half arsk defeat there own purpose.
laminations allow for a wider dispersal area of the hit on the foot and helps reduce the sissor effect of a thin jaw and the spring lever working with each lung to reach its true lock up position... usally with lams, you need to power up some or add helper springs if your gonna trap in any sort of freeze thaw conditions... something to think on anyhow... jim

I definitly Prefer OS Lam for K9 Cats Fisher ect But not for Coon and smaller species.I do not see a great advantage to double jaws.

in my opinion I feel the coyotes fight the offset traps more because they feel a little bit of freedom of movement. a tight fit doesnot give them this.

Thanks guys for your opinion's and photos. So what I got from this is, OS helps with higher levers/better lock up, lams help with more surface area during hold, helps with damage/comfort, may need helper springs to get through snow/ice, and not mentioned but shown I believe, making a large trap into a legal trap. Thanks for helping us newer guys learn from your experience. Doug
