I was thinning out some spruce stands that I have, and noticed that they formed a blanket of the driest dirt/mulch that I have ever seen. It almost looks like peat moss when you pick it up, but has dried out needles in it. My question is could I use this stuff in the winter to cover my traps? Would the smell of spruce needles over my traps give away something is not right to the K9's? My sets are put in fields not woods.

Dear Friend, the odor in that material occurs naturally in their environment and wouldnt be anymore conspicuous than the odors of a lure or bait out in a field. Sift it out, dry it, bag it up! Have a few bags to spare let me know. Regards

It also helps cover any scent you leave behind while making the set.
