Anybody get a chance to go out for youth hunt or been out scouting birds? Just curious of what you're hearing and or not. Tight lipped birds? Gobbling alot? etc

called in two together last saturday morning for a girl around 7 am. she shot the one, 9 inch beard with 3/4 inch spurs but after that the wind was to much. Sunday took her brother out and pretty much what nycoyotehounds said, gobbled alright on roost then shut it off when he hit the ground. cold weather and hens, probably will be a rough start for those who dont do their homework.

Not to worry. With the recent full moon that weirds out the birds considerably it gives them another day to get back to normal.

been out last few mornings scouting, lotta gobbling on the roost, but birds are still grouped up heavy up here, however i was listening to birds gobble till a little after 9 a.m. sat morning, this morning again gobbling on the roost but as stated nothing after fly down, watched 5 strutters with about a dozen hens pop out soon after though, if ya know where they're roosting and tend to move after fly down, just gotta be there to intercept (and hope theres not a dozens other dudes with the same idea)

Good luck to everyone tomorrow. May the birds gobble, display and come to the call. Aim small, miss small. And most of all, enjoy the woods waking up. Lol, it's 9:40 and we'll have been sitting for about 5 hours already. And or whacked a bird already and back to bed. Gobble, gobble

Opening day: highlight was lone hen called in and chickadee landing on brim of hat. No gobbles
Second day: awesome day even without killing a bird. Started my day by hearing woodcock "peep, peeping" while walking in, cross prestine trout stream and booted some woodies. 20 yards later I heard something thrashing around in the swamp, turned on flashlight with red lens and coon practically ran me over. another 100 yards uphill and fox started to bark at me. 5:45 two birds started to gobble on roost. They meanedored down hill from me. 6:30 had them both coming to me. One of which was double and triple gobbling. Had big boy at about 100 yards when I heard the other bird puff up with air 10 feet behind me followed by a putt, putt, putt etc. Had nice rope( probably a 2 year old that came in silent not to get his butt whooped by mature bird) and could have taken shot on his run but did the wiser and did not. No sense taking an iffy shot. big boy shut down. About two hours later of calling every 20 minutes or so finally lit up the big boy with the crow call. he hit it hard. narrowed the distance and quickly set up without decoy(s). minutes later had him at 10-12 yards almost cresting hill. Saw top of fan and then only head. Gun had been shouldered for about 10-15 minutes, dang it's heavy. Arms starting to quiver and figured with pattern so tight at that range I'd wait for a better shot. he didn't see the hen that he was looking for and poof gone. never saw him depart nor alarm call. Hindsight, I should have rustled leaves with other hand. Oh well, my bad. 11 or so got him going again. Had him slowly meandoring out of a gorge to me. He was maybe 125 yards out when I checked time, 11:50 and can only hunt til noon. I slipped out unnoticed to try again another day (Monday) I nicknamed him "hat trick" as I had him there or coming 3x. Hopefully nobody trespasses or kills him out of my brothers property line between now and Monday. Stopped and rescued a snapping turtle strattling double yellow lines on way home too. No bird but great hunt.
