... his biggest fish today was bigger yet. Yesterday he landed five fish over 5lbs, two over 7lbs. Today he landed several more 3lb and bigger including one shown above. Creek should be hot for big fish the next couple weeks or so. Not a bad way to spend the morning with a pair of polaroid glasses and egg sacks Attachments:

Austin,
Those are dandy fish! Nice to see legally taken fish. Some of those Naples loggers don't quite fit that bill ifin ya know what I mean. Headed out next week to the Niagara river to try for steelheads.

oh I hear ya, Al. In the first hour or so each morning the fish strike aggressively. Once they get spooked by too much commotion and human traffic, they lock down. Then there are two choices: learn the fine art of teasing the offer for strikes, or attempt to snag.
despite a pretty strong presence of DEC and many of the locals self-policing the stream, there are some number of foul-hooked fish that get bagged. But with this year's 1-fish limit and a strong ethic of the serious local trout experts to catch & release, most of those big fish make it back to the lake unscathed.
best thing DEC could possibly do is ban wading from any part of the stream bed. too many fresh redds get trampled up in the small shallows. That said, fish population is pretty strong overall.

Ethan Hall's parents & family are lifelong friends of Holly and her two boys. They all grew up together, both parents and children. I've known Ethan for ten years now, and his complete obsession is fishing and hunting with no other distractions. Now he's added trapping to the list of new fixations.
He and Holly's youngest son Dylan have been fishing bass tourneys for a few years now and doing very well. They've stream fished their whole lives, they commonly hammer the steelhead on various Ontario tribs from the small ones near Rochester to Pulaski.
Both young men and almost all of their friends are total catch & release for trout and bass. The only time any of them keep a trout is for annual derby entry or if it's 12lbs or so and they want a wall mount. Other than that, everything they catch is turned back unharmed.
Naples Creek is a rather amazing fishery. It's a small flow with many small holes and just a few deep ones scattered thru its length. But certain years like this one when spring is real late in arriving, it is stacked full of fish for April 1st. The guys are having a pretty good time there now, and next water rise will bring in a fresh run of fish up while the current batch heads back out.
