I wanted to be sure everyone is aware that we will have a trapping license. The fee will be $20.00, $275 for non-residents. This was passed by both houses last week and signed by the Governor on, I believe, Friday. I did not want to report this until after it was signed as things can change very quickly late in the process. D.M.

what I didn't understand about that whole proposal is this: the reason for said license fee changes was having too much money in a conservation fund. Really? $35 million is too much money? How about spending some of that to dredge the cattail mats out of every state WMA with water? And the hundreds of acres tag alder or phragmities that clog former open marsh lands?
How about building dozens of rip-rap digger holes on every finger lakes tributary where native trout spawn? How about buying more fragments of idle land bordering WMAs to expand their total acreage?
Reading that the state conservation fund had too much money confused the hell out of me. Still does, actually.

Dear Mr. Miller, thank you kindly for the report......good news, and for the moment we still remain Free Trappers.......Mr AustinP....the phrase, "surplus money", in governmental terms translates to; rob from, and re-allocate/spend money for purposes other than what it was intended for. Basically it is legalized thievery. Regards

I was fortunate to be with Dave, John Rockwood, and NTA Director Jim Carmody In Albany at the Sportsmen March . I wish every NYSTA member and every New York trapper could see behind the scenes. Every one of those men are true gentlemen and they serve us well! The repore that Dave has with the legislators of both parties along with staff members is refreshing. NYSTA can be proud!

I for one am very pleased that Dave and NYSTA were able to get the individual trapping license restored, HOWEVER I am greatly irritated at the CONSERVATION FUND ADVISORY BOARD and our GOVERNOR HOMO. Presently I pay $ 10 for a Sr. Sportsmen and fishing license, $ 10 for a DMP Application, and $ 5 for a senior trapping license totaling $ 25. If I understand the license changes correctly the various combination sportsmen licenses have been eliminated and now I will have to pay $ 5 for Hunting (over 70), $ 25 for fishing, $ 20 for trapping, and $ 10 for a DMP application, totaling $ 60. Thanks a lot you bunch of nit wits! Thanks a lot!

The information I received was incorrect. The senior discounted fees will remain intact.
