The last week of Trapping has seen walleyed trapping spots swarmed by Aquatic pests in the form of spawning Northern Pike. Four out of six Sets for beaver and Otter have been fired daily and empty. Sometimes the traps are fired again before walleyed can move away from the set by another pike. The Otter are having a field day peeling and eating Northerns as the bank is littered with the sign of their streamside all they can eat Banquets. Last night one of my sets stayed armed long enough to whack a #49.50 Lb Male Beaver so persistence did pay off. i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy66/perchpike/novembertrapphotos728_zps7c97c841.jpg Pulling Traps and waiting out the end of the Rude Northern Pike's Sex-Capades is not an option with so few days left in the Beaver season so walleyed will keep chipping away at the things. One of walleyed's floats produced a muskrat this morning and two were captured yesterday so a small trickle of Fur is coming in. My trapline is still Limited to a dozen yards or less from the roadside until i have the strength to struggle with my canoe. Still Some time left but My area is over-run and littered with carpet-bagging Iced out Tughill Plateau trappers scraping for open water. No more Catch photos until I can figure out how to use the new photo bucket. stay tuned. walleyed

I came upon two fresh roadkills today while scouting for rat locations next season. Had you been with me walleyed, I would have let you scoop them up and roll the meter forward. Plenty of time left to break 200... gotta be some fresh toilets at culvert or bridge corners nearby somewhere

This morning I had Chains down on two floats plus a nice Two year old Traveler Beaver and another Rat in DUKE 330's in a freshly Re-occupied Bank den from a Colony I trapped last Fall. s778.photobucket.com/user/perchpike/media/novembertrapphotos734_zps9c7660ef.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 Had two more fired, empty 330's presumably from the last of the Northern Pike Spawning run. The rats seem to be moving a little better the last two days and I wish I had more sites to drop in floats where there is a rat population. The Ice is almost completely out, and as soon a I get air in my John boat trailer tires, I am going to transport my Canoe on it so I can maybe get down in the marsh this week. Waiting to skin the catch after the wind blows on them a bit to dry them off. I'm enjoying the warm weather, and being able to run a few traps near the road. Seven days of Beaver and 15 more days of Rat so maybe walleyed will get a few more pelts on the boards in the coming days. Stay tuned. walleyed

Thanks for the great photos of your floats. Do the floats only work well in spring or will they produce in the fall as well?

Thanks for the great photos of your floats. Do the floats only work well in spring or will they produce in the fall as well? For me Spring Only; I've never caught a muskrat on floats in the fall of the year. Even in the spring, I've only done well on floats UNDER bridges or along wing abutments on bridges approaches, or if their is some overhanging vegetation or branches under which to tuck the float. I think surviving Rats in the spring are used to avoiding winged predators by hunkering down behind cover. w
