I was considering running up towards northwestern NY to run a waterline this fall, and I'd like to try for fisher. Is there a decent amount of publicland to trap in that area.I was thinking closer to Lake Ontario the better. My other alternative would be the Adirondacks.I'm about 4 hrs away so I would need a little advise on which area would be best;not asking specifics.Once I can decide on an area, I plan to drive up a few times this summer with my son to see if its worth the trip in season. My main targets would be beaver, mink and fisher;along with any muskrats I may find.I just love beaver and mink trapping but have very few close to where I live. And fisher,we have too short of a season to really make an effort. This trip is for the fun of it and not to longline at all.Hopefully, someone can point me in a direction with good beaver populations and a decent chance at catching a fisher or 2 Thanks for any help!!

Most of the public land right on the lake shore will be state parks. Some are open to trapping and some are not. A little further inland you will find public land containing everything from feilds and hardwoods to marshes and creeks. To trap fisher you must be north of the US Route 11, salmon river boundry. Good luck!

As long as this trip is just for pleasure and not profit you you will do fine in either area. I personally trap in Maine for three weeks each year and my gas bill alone is well over five hundred dollars, not to mention the cost of lodging and food! Life is too short to keep putting these trips off till next year. Get out there and do it. It is not about what you catch, it is about having fun and living the dream.

yes, trapping pressure on public waters in the fall is high... everyone up north is a trapper, the public waters are crowded anywhere access is easy or almost easy you wont make record catches but you should have fun
