Just a dusting up at camp in Tug Hill, barely at the 5 foot mark. They are calling for a couple more feet tonight, might be time to shovel a roof or two. www.northernchateau.com/webcam.htmlThat bump on the left is a statue of a penguin. You know the snow is getting deep, when you bury the penguin. LOL Time to go ride.

skunkman, some random guy from SD told me on trapperman last spring that NYers would perish out there in the Dakota winter blizzards. Said he figured we were all city slickers because our address says NY. Guess we all better stay right here where it's tropical and safe

Austin, 99 % of the population has no clue about the real New York, thank god. They think it's all pavement and city slickers. I bring friends up from south Florida to the Adirondacks,Tug Hill, Finger Lakes, or the Thousand Islands, and they are just speechless as to the beauty of the area. They also cannot understand the type of winters we have, especially Tug Hill, and inside the Blue Line. If we could just get rid of the bad politicians and taxes under control.....

Austin, just invite him to visit this weekend and remind him to only pack summer clothes and sunscreen. He'll either get ejumacated reel kwik or drop out of the gene pool. ;D
When in southern CA one summer in the early 70's, I gave up real quick trying to convince people that I had never been to NYC or the Statue of Liberty, they thought I was kidding because they believed that all NYers had a window view of it.

in the "out of staters" defense (been here since 95') if they go by all the absurd legislature that spews from the pores of our obviously unstable elected officials it would be hard for anyone to believe theres anything but a "new york city" life style going on here!! its unfortunate but then again it keeps the riff raff out of the beautiful areas of the state (for the most part)

Tug Hill is rockin'.......they always mention it the Weather Channel.
This has been a Cal Ripken winter for us......steady and consistent.
I have a dorky neighbor....retired. Nothing but time on his hands. You know, the guy that knows exactly how much rain we got yesterday cause he checked his rain gauge! (I have one too!)
Anyhow, he told me this week that up on the hill where we live (almost 800 feet above the flatlands around Syracuse) that we have had snow cover on the ground since Dec 20th.
We had one three day respite and thaw in late January, but we never got down to green grass.
I know this is a joke to the Tug Hill guys......or the Oswego guys......
Generally, we all like to think we have it worse than the next guy. Guilty as charged!
I travel all over the country, and all over NYS......
I can't help but notice all the green grass south, east, and west of Syracuse as I drive to NJ, NYC, Pittsburgh, Ohio, etc.
I am not pointing this out from a trapping standpoint......I am really disappointed in the fact that I was hoping to get a jump on spring and summer projects since I have been done with fur for so long.....but Ma Nature has other plans.
It looks like this pattern will be with us for a bit, into April.
Crap!
Yep, I'm whining!

at 6am tomorrow this truck will be loaded with beaver & rats gear, headed way north. I'm not sure if it'll be a spring line or winter line when I arrive on site, but motel rooms are booked for the weekend regardless. even here in balmy shangri-la valley we've had teens F at night with backyard pond icing over and then partially thawing each day. Got about 30+ gese fighting over the open spot at inlet right now, nesting season is delayed. DEC shocked naples creek here yesterday, had to break shelf ice on the edges of quiet pools while the onlooker masses braved bitter cold winds in the process. They turned a bunch of 10lb range fish... largest were a female of 11+ and male of 12+ pounds. Hens are still chrome and full of eggs... it will be a banner opening day here for big fish this time around. Attachments:
