The last Flatiron Fur Sale of this season will be held at Von's Flatiron Fur Shed this Saturday, March 16, from 12:00 noon until ? The address is 3213 County Route 18, Stanley, NY 14561. I'm sure there will be the usual great food and refreshments as well as hours and hours of both trapping related and not so trapping related stories, tales, and just plain bs ;D You don't have to bring fur to attend and have a great time ! Austin, your road kills are welcome as long as they ain't possums ! See y'all on Saturday.

I m working on a new 18 wheeler fleshing system for those possums. This should keep labor to a minimum and increase productivity. One day in a major hyw for fleshing and 10 min in Flatirons fur tumbler should do the trick..

lol @ the possums! longbeard, I saw about 15 roadkills las week during that brief warm spell and immediately thought of Rockwood each time. If you build that type of professional fur-handling rig for NY silver fox, you can rent shared space for the rest of us I'll be in Ft Drum tomorrow trying to find two or three beavers that Rockwood and others may have missed. Got a few places to scout way up north, won't be around for the monthly Flatiron "truth in discovery" conversations. Will miss that very much, looking forward to Zerby this year.

I'd be interested in camping there, but heard it's a dry town... no adult beverages permitted on the grounds. Kinda like to have a beer or two after supper while visiting with the guys, but I suppose ice tea or lemonade will have to suffice

once again I enjoyed a couple hours of fine entertainment at the flatiron yesterday. It is always a great time getting together with fellow trappers. The third most memorable moment was seeing a young female squirrel mutt trained to pee on command. I never knew that was worth points in the ranking at those sanctioned field trial events... very impressive! The second most memorable part was that bbq pulled pork in the crock pot. Whoever made that, let me tell you something: I am a pulled pork fanatic, have eaten it all over the this country and that batch right there ranked at the very top of anything I had in Memphis or North Carolina or Texas or anywhere. Absolutely fantastic eating right there. I'd love to have that bbq recipe if it's available to the public The most memorable part was stepping out of my car on the far side of road from building and very first smell to hit me was aroma of skunk pods... wafting from somewhere indoors 100 feet away. Seated in the vicinity of that jar for a couple of hours and I no longer smelled them at all. But the first question Holly asked when I picked her up from work was, "Where have you been? You smell like skunk again and you're probably stinking up my car"

Why's that, artie... did you run over a skunk on the way down here? Turns out Von did have a jar of skunk pods in the lure cabinet, too. I could smell them for the first half-hour or so, then the smell went away. Figured he moved them outside and away from the food. Actually, I was going to move it myself but accidentally grabbed a bottle that says "Red Sauce" on the hand-written label. Ended up bringing that home, thought it was a nice tomato base for that world-class pulled pork bbq dish. I was wrong... it was something grayish colored and rotten smelling. So I dumped it out back on the lawn here before anyone ate it and got sick. Looked out the window early next morning and there was a dozen red fox lined up to pee in that exact spot. One would sniff the dump site, dig around and then cock its leg to pee. On to the next one, same story. One by one they'd sniff, dig squat or cock a leg and mark the dump site. That red fox foolishness carried on for an hour until I went out there and shooed them all away. Can you imagine the smell that left in my yard? It'll be July before that spot mellows out. Anyways, that Strahan "Red Sauce" might make a half-decent fox attractant. Rumor has it Von's giving out free 4oz samples and the written recipe at Zerbie this year. I might have to go thru the line twice myself for that handout... similar to Florida votes for Obama. Why stop with just one trip thru the booth? But I digress. The place did stink like skunk pods. And dog pee, too. But the pork bbq was simply out of this world good

Lmao! Austin you got what I call Rank, I use that in the late season. Red sauce actually has a red look to it and is very mellow. Zagger says its really good on ice cream! The pulled pork recipe is'nt a secret its all in the cooking.

Von...had fun, glad we stopped over.
Have to tell you though...after you & I unloaded the fur from my truck, I got home & found another coyote pelt under the bench seat, just as well, I needed a couple to get tanned.
Promised Karen I'd take her to the Fingerlakes Casino, blew some fur money there, should of took her to the outlet mall instead. At least I'd have something tangible for my efforts.
Had fun anyway bud...thanks for the hospitality!!
And thank you John for the generous pricing. Sorry you got stuck with my damaged fox, I may take you up on that offer for the rest
