There is no "Trick" to catching any furbearer. In order to become a consistent and successful trapper you must learn every habit and habitat perference of each animal. This is done by first reading all available information on each. Secondly, by spending a lot of time in the field studying tracks, habitat, and whenever possible the animal themselves. The late "Charlie Dobbins" often stated that he would spend much time in the summer months watching beaver and other furbearers. The best mink trapper in my area grew up on a mink farm and knew exactly how mink think. This is the secret to successful trapping, understanding how that particular furbearer thinks. I don't think that this is legal anymore, but when I was a kid my buddy had a pet raccoon and what this animal taught us was how it thought. I could go on and on, but the point is you must think like a furbearer in order to catch them regularly.

Mink like all members of the weasel family hunt mostly by sight and check out everything that might provide a meal lure is not that important with mink concentrate on eye appeal first and then bait if you are trapping in the right place you will catch them.

Also from year to year once you get one mark that spot you will catch others. i find they all travel the same path on water ways. blind set..
