Does anyone know for sure if the auction is on for March 17th?

I was there for a while. Saw a coyote go for $75, a possum for $20, a group of skunks at $25 each! Some rats went for $15, lots of fox going for $50+, but most were in the 40's. Coon and mink prices were all across the board. Most of the fur was well handled, but there was still some that makes me cringe!

I skin my rats old style,, use wire stretchers, do a crappy job fleshing....and I still used to get the highest prices at the local auctons when I used to sell there.

Marshrat, "do a crappy job fleshing" How much longer does it take to do a good fleshing job? Comments like that will only encourage newbies to do a poor fleshing job and expect top dollar like you have suggested. There is nothing wrong with using wire stretchers for rats.

I have learned to not "overflesh" as many people do. After the pelt dries I use a towel to remove the excess fat that has turned to liquid. I have noticed that a lot of people tend to overstretch rats. George Warren showed me the best way to get top dollar for rats.

Marshrat, there is a big difference between over fleshing and under fleshing! Proper fleshing any pelt should be the goal! Properly handled furs will always bring the highest prices, and proper put-up and presentation helps bring the averages up which benefits all sellers!
