I'm tanning my first hide and am not sure what I'm doing wrong. I tried to tan once and screwed up, still oily skin. I thinned it out more and am salt bathing right now. I think I just didn't thin enough the first time. How's it look to you guys? Attachments:

raccoon hides do not require "thinning" (shaving) if properly fleshed, (i assume your salt bathing to rehydrate) they do require degreasing though either prior to pickling or during the pickle, you can use dawn dish detergent if again its been fleshed properly, just soak hide in bout 3 gallons of water with a heavy suds of dawn for 30-45 mins then rinse and proceed with whatever tanning process your utilizing (i could be more helpful if i knew which tanning method your using)
