When the constitution was written it did not include blacks, women, indians, and white men that did not own land. So it brings up a question, did the founding fathers really care about our gun rights or did they have their own agenda?

the second amendment is not so much about guns or gun rights, (dont get me wrong it is all that), as it is about having tools to save and protect the rights given in the first 10 amendements ( the US Bill Of Rights). after being under tyrannical rule the founding fathers realized that having arms (guns) was the only way the common man could avoid this tyranny. they cared about rights and freedoms of the common man. if they had thier own agenda, most likely we would have no Constitution or certainly no Bill of Rights.

That's the rub about Cuomo and other gun-grabbers, saying "NO ONE NEEDS 10 BULLETS TO KILL A DEER!!!" kind of crap. It isn't about hunting, it isn't about target shooting, it IS about keeping the tyrants at bay! ..and simply amazes me how many folks cant/ wont comprehend that!!!

This was on the History channel....Women couldn't vote till the 20's...even if they owned land. This isn't a debate. I was just saying it is pretty interesting because the way it is stated anyone that rents does not have the right to bears arms.

I just wanted to hear some thoughts, I was watching a program on the History channel about the American revolution and they mentioned this. With all the gun blah going on lately I thought it was interesting that blacks, women, indians and white guys that didn't own land didn't have gun rights when the constitution was written......or any other rights for that matter.

I forgot to add, since the landowners were paying almost all the taxes - because INCOME TAX hadn't been enacted, YET; it had most certainly been thought of, and attempted more than once, but was always struck down as non-BIBLICAL (look up in old books; you know, those old square-ish thingies that have papers with squiggly lines in them), the reasons given that the Constitution used at its core the Bible and its principles, and income, THEN, unlike today, was almost entirely from self-employment/self-sufficiency, and therefore was PROFIT, NOT WAGES like today, and that was a person's to KEEP, less the 10% of the INCREASE that was called the tithe... but, Congress eventually passed an amendment authorizing the collection of revenues from EVERYONE, based on their income... Take a look, there's NOTHING allowing schools (which were voluntary, not compulsory back then, until Lincoln freed the slaves but enslaved the children - just kidding! - but he actually did make school compulsory, and to satisfy the agrarian society of the time, initiated a "school year" wherein the children would be in school from harvest to planting, whereupon, from planting to harvest, they would be "on vacation" from school but working the fields) or school districts the authority or right to collect school taxes, but you DO pay them, right? But the loophole used? They use, again without authority or right, the municipal (usually county) government to collect taxes and to punish by means of seizure those property owners NOT in "compliance" with laws that don't exist... crud, I wasn't going to go any further........... MarshratJoe has a way of doing that to us. we are slowly, but surely educating him of the the other sides of every story. Great History lesson Though TMC, I enjoyed it and picked up a few New tid-bits of Knowledge though. keep up The Good work and the Good fight. walleyed

BS..most people had rights. They were God given, not government given, and the Constitution was written to guarantee those rights were never taken away. Our forefathers were smart enough to put it in writing. It continues to amaze me that people take these documentaries as gospel..

the fact that more folks "have rights" is refered to as "progress" means we "society" moved in a forward direction, taking those rights away (ie:gun control) is just going "backwards" but i think im onto marshrat's "game", he likes to stir the pot and see what color the stew turns into!!!!! LOL!!!!

CRISPUS ATTUCKS
the first person to die for the United States in the revolution, was both Black and Native American. he was carrying a club and was shot twice in the chest, fighting for FREEDOM.
think about it.

The government is not always looking out for what is the peoples best interest only.In the case of the Native Americans, they were granted citizenship so the could be drafted in World War 1.
