Started hunting coyotes this year with a new Fox Pro call and my 22-250. My question is for the shotgun over my lap is a Rem. 870 that takes 3.5" shells, what size loads? Shuld I use a turkey x-full choke? I bought some 00 buck, can that be used with that choke?
any help you guys can give is greatly app.
Thanks Pincher

I used to Shotgun Hunt in New Jersey for Whitetail Deer and everybody around used #4 BUCK over 00BUCK with deadly effect. I'd just keep your shots UNDER 40 Yards to be Sure of a Lethal HIT. My Experience anyway. Can't say how your Buckshot rounds would perform in any particular gun as there is so much variability in Shotguns and Loads. Get some paper targets, set up some 30, 40, 50, and 60 yard targets, and let fly with a couple test shots at EACH range with a stabilizing bull-bag while using the ammunition you are wondering about. That would CONCRETELY answer your specific question on what load works best with which choke on which Gun, better than any off-the-cuff advice anyone here on line could give you. You will, of course have to expend some scarce, high dollar ammo to find out though. But then you will know without a Doubt. walleyed

I use 00 buck in my 870 with a turkey choke and it knocks them pretty good. #4 buck even better.

i know alot of guys i hunt with over the dogs use #4 buck...but walleyed gave you about the best info...just try them out...one guy i hunt with said he notices that the 00 work better in a more open choke such as a modified than in a tighter turkey choke...but to each there own just gotta try them to see..

We found that we are getting better patterns with 3 in # 4buck. was using 3 1/2" ran out and had to buy 3" shot some at target and was suprized at the patterns. Also try steel shot tubes if you have them along with turkey tubes they both work. You can use over tight tubes and they blow out your pattern.
