A friend of mine who lives in Binghamton (and owns a boat...one of the best type of friends to have haha!) is looking for some tips on good perch waters within a few hour drive from there. I figured there has to be some guys that can lead us in the right direction.

My friend Ron caught this one last winter, 2012 in Seneca... 2lb - 13oz fish to win a big annual fireman's tourney. The other fish this year was 3lb - 8oz reported, a friend's son caught that last weekend. Ron is a big-time perch fishing addict in winter, he gets on schools of 1lb+ to 2lb fish all the time. Says he has more than 100 waypoints marked in his Garmen, lots of times they are fishing in 30 to 70 feet of water suspended schools. Other times the fish are in 10 feet or less. Like anything else there is a science to it, but no doubt the fish are there. He says they are always stuffed with freshwater shrimp and sometimes crayfish or minnow, but mostly the scud. Must be a real high calorie diet for them, by the looks of things. Attachments:

If you want perch Lake George is the place to be. I've been limiting out for past few weeks. Worth the drive and lake also has a tremendous lake trout fishery along with big northerns, salmon, and pickeral. Fish with a Hali jig tipped with a couple of spikes right on the bottom.

Canadarago lake in Otsego county and Chenango lake in Chenango county have good populations of perch as does the Whitney Point reservior.

North end of Keuka and canandaguia lakes hold some real nice perch right at ice out, and early spring; right now if you can take the cold!

Bob,
If I told ya I'd have to ........... A place called the Barn Lot on east side of Northwest Bay. If you fish out of veterans go out of Sawmill Bay north about two hundred yards. Watch for white boathouse that runs sets parallel with shore. Has two rectangular windows. Gray boathouse just north of it. Fish about 200 yards off shore. Fished it the day the wind blew so hard and limited out. Fish quit about 11AM and start back upabout 2 to 3PM. Lots of lake trout everywhere.
