I'd suggest the Ruger Single-Six in Stainless Steel, Get both cylinders 22LR & the 22Mag. It only takes a few seconds to switch the cylinders out and are accurate enough to shoot rabbits or squirrels if you see any while your out checking your traps. I had a blued Single-Six and sold it and bought the Stainless Steel model. I also bought two Ruger Mark 2 pistols, both stainless steel. Can't beat the rugers for quality & accuracy.

Still carry my Gramps Harrington Richardson 22 revolver 9 shot. It has 2 cylinders. 1 is longs and the other shorts. My pride and joy.

I have a Single six that I bought new in 1970. Works just fine. I dont believe the Quality has changed over the years. Debbie's sister just got a Ruger Bear Cat. They are a nice little gun if you can find one.

I use a heritage rough rider. It comes with a 22lr and 22mag cylinder. Was cheap to buy and shoots good. Seems to be holding up to being knocked around very well.

Trapper Jack I still have not gotten two people to give me the same answer as to whether we can load more than seven rounds in our 9 shot revolvers. There is apparently some differences of opinion as to whether the cylinder is considered a magazine.

Oldeman the last that I read on it was that it was legal because its not a semi-auto. That may have changed since then ....who knows. Ive had a S&W 22/32 kit gun for over 25 years and it has served me well. Small and fairly light to carry. Single sixes are hard to beat also.

I have both the Bear Cat and the Single Six in Stainless. The most important think for a trapper is stainless, I think. Just shake the water out and go. The Single Six is great with it's adjustable sights and all. But the Bear Cat just can't be beat once you practice a little to learn how to hold the fixed sights. It's small enough to carry easily and big enough to shoot well with practice. Oh here's a quiz. What does a NYS Trooper do went their not sure if you violated the law or not. A. Write a ticket anyway. B. Admit they don't know and bid you a good day. C. Call their mother and ask her. I think we know the answer. Never have more than seven rounds in a gun of any kind unless you want to spend your money on lawyers.

I read the law and then called the hotline twice and got two different answers. The first person I talked to said he would advise not loading more than 7 rds the second guy said he personally would not hassle a sportsman over this because there is no "intent" to violate a law but reminded me that you are dealing with individuals.I called my personal lawyer and his answer was that it was a poorly written law that is shure to involve a lot of court cases and said it will be helpful if you know which side your local district atty. is on before you venture into any questionable areas as violations will be felonies and consequenses could be severe.

BTW) so although theres alot of hype about law enforcement NOTenforcing these new laws the reality is different

I couldn't get a answer either. Well, thats not true. I got two different answers from 2 different State Boys. I always leave the one under the hammer empty anyway so now its 8 loads. Maybe something at the rally on the 28th? I am really fed up with all this nonsense. I am going to try and buy some 22 ammo while in Albany. That ought to be a pain in the butt too. Added note: My extra cylinder was made special (1940"s) and fires 22 shorts only. The other fires 22 longs.

The reason I stay away is if you buy ammo there they are already running the background checks. They are clearly not on our side so why support them.

From where dick's started down on Court Street in Binghamton 45 years or so ago they really forgot what us common people think. My mother bought my first gun at their store in Binghamton forty-five years ago, and I bought several other guns there over the years. Now I wouldn't take a nuts in their parkig lot. I'll go with out before I hand them one dime out of my pocket. There are other places to buy what you need. The company I use to work for built the Cabelas in Lacy Washington about seven years ago, they just built another one here locally in Marysville WA. Another store that won't see much of my money, Their guns cost from $100 to $150 more then at their competiters. Plus their ammo when they use to have it cost 30 to 40% more then the other guys. I wanted to look at a new semi 12 gauge for duck & goose huntingin the price range of $1,200 to $1,700.I pulled a number, the woman called my number ans said I'll be right back. Half an hour later the dumb complain called another number and helped them out. So needless to say I went to Wholesale Sports and bought a new Winchester SuperX3 in the waterfowl package & six boxes of Black Cloud steel shot. I'd be hard pressed to buy a gun or anything from Calelas as well. The only thing I need to buy is traps incase I move back East, and if I do they will more then likely be used. I will be buying a hand full of guns but they will be used and before the mandatory back ground check becomes law here in Washington State.
