What if you make a complaint to the local highway boss. They tear out the dam to save the road and then there is no dam. You get permission to trap and all is well.

Technically, the town is still required to get a permit to remove the dam!
About 5 or 6 years ago, I was hired to remove the beaver from a DEC operated fish hatchery. They had to get all the permits for this. Even to remove the dam and house structure!

Technically, the town is still required to get a permit to remove the dam! About 5 or 6 years ago, I was hired to remove the beaver from a DEC operated fish hatchery. They had to get all the permits for this. Even to remove the dam and house structure! I had the same issue this year and a few years back. The first time the town had to shove the thing out with a big long pole. It cost the town a bit of dough to do this. This past year we obtained the permits. Called the DEC biologist and he had the permits in the mail the same day.
