I checked my 5 sets early; Two bottom edge, two dry crossovers, and one Bank Den Hole. No catches or incidents. There wasn't anything to report trapping wise. Went to the Big City of SYRACUSE to visit my Pop and watched Syracuse Basketball Team take a bad whipping at the hands of the Pittsburgh Panthers. Hope to make some more sets tomorrow on the Ice. walleyed

Logged on earlier and looked for The Daily Update, and thought, hope he's ok. I've never even met Walleyed, seems like I know him though. Anyway I was hoping to hear a story and see a photo of a 75# in that GIANT bever trap. I'll check back after my check in the morning.

No Action at my sets this morning. We got around 5 inches of dry powdery snow last night covering the landscape which was newly decorated by fresh Coyote tracks (many) and red fox tracks (few).
I'm beginning to suspect it may have been an Otter whom escaped the MB-12" X 16" Trap two days ago as I feel a beaver would have probably moved from It's Bank Den Hole by now in search of food.
Unless of course, any temporarily trapped, (and escaped) beaver then exited the den, and moved somewhere else safer.
Seems odd to hit an animal right off the bat in the only entrance to the den when trap is first set, and then two days of nothing. There is only one way in, and one way out so if the beast is still occupying the den, then it has to emerge sometime, Right ?
There is now about 7 inches of Snow on the Ice insulating it from the cold so I'm not confident or enthusiastic that it is firmed up enough to return to the Ice to reset the targeted Beaver lodges or move on any New ones.
It is one of those mornings with NO WIND and everything blanketed in heaps of powdery snow like one would find in a "Currier & Ives" or "Terry Redlin" Artist's winter scene.
Too Bad there was no trapping action to photograph with such a classical winter scene in the background.
Tomorrow is another day.
Stay tuned.
