... on the beaver I caught yesterday. I noticed it when I was skinning last night. It was embedded in the ear and engorged. I never thought they were an issue in January. It just got warm the day prior to catching the beav and their pond was still iced over. I wonder if the ticks overwinter inside of the beaver lodges?

Warm and dry in the beaver lodge....Beaver have lots of fleas too. I've been spraying the beavers with Raid and bagging before skinning in my basement.

I have had some real serious tick issues on beaver fall winter spring.

That ended up being the gnarliest beaver I've caught. In addition to the tick and several fur mats I had to brush out, the undersides had lots of those puss filled sores, especially around the legs. The fur side looks nice and thick and dark to me, but the leather side is gnarly.

Found another tick today in my second beaver from this spot. Also in the ear.
