You need to look over your trap reg booklet...... before you set any traps....

Seems that would have been covered in trapper training. Read reg book and memorize trapping section along with season dates. Whatever you do don't set large body grip traps on land even on your own land. We don't need another regulation changed.

If I was you I would set your 280 in water deep enuff to submerge trap only in a open beaver season and like said above coyotes love to swim. Might be that new freeze profe set in winter if water is moving fast enuff other than that forget large body grips for k9.

How about reading it because it is the morally and ethically right thing to do!!!!!

Ppl on this site obay the law not to mention a few are law inforcment them selves . And yes DEC officers are active trappers and are also members here. Just because you see the law in your area does not mean follow the law. It is there to protect you, land, land owners, and wildlife. The law is the law and regulations are set to be followed no matter who is in your area.

In my post above I'm sure I sounded like an A$$ . But when some one talks about 280's on land for a coyote it strikes a nerv with me. You did the right thing by asking on here instead of trying any ideas you may have had.

nytrapper18, Don't get any of these guys wrong. They are all great trappers and obey the laws. Just be glad that they are trying to lead you in the right direction. Trappers that I have met here and in my travels have been by far the best conservationists I have met. This is also not only trapping lessons but life lessons as well. Really, listen to oakhill and get some good traps.

Skinning and fleshing are not dirty work if you stick with trapping you will discover that this is where you have a chance to realize the most from your catches and once you get the knack of it you will enjoy this part as well.
