My dad and I have 5 sets on a pond and have been out for 8 days and none have gotten caught. One set is on a run and one is on a tunnel they dug out. It's been very cold and I was wondering if I could get tips and wonder y I haven't got anything

It could be possible that someone else got in there earlier in the season and hit them hard. Even if you have exclusive permission, someone may have gone in there at night without being seen.

Totally agree with proratman.....Muskrats are creatures of habit and follow the same trails/paths each day as well as dedicated feeding & tolit areas. If you don't catch anything after 2 days you need to move your traps to better locations.

It is private property and he has seen 3... So I should move the traps around?

depends on how long ago he saw the rats ,lots of predators can eat those 3 rats, try different locations try some baited apple sets , if they are still there you will catch them.

Ya but we aren't going onto it because the owners sump pump pumps the warm water into it so we don't think it is safe to walk on.

if you got lure i sudjest a causture mount with muskrat musk but if you see tracks take a hollow log or something and place it eather on the trail or near it for they are very curiouse animal and can hardly resist going threw them
or wait to spring and make a floating rig they will climp up on almost anything floating
