So I came into a little money through a play off pool, and wanted to buy some DP traps for next season. Should I buy them now or wait closer to next years trapping season? I ask because I'm not sure how often trap manufactures change their designs or come out with a better version for next years market? , being a newbie to trapping. I know with bow hunting each year they make this bow faster, that bow better etc. etc.

Traps aren't comparable to archery equipment. some of the best traps haven't been made in 30 to 40 years. Put the "found" money with what you planned on spending and buy quality traps. In time you can pass these down.

Thanks for replying whartonrattrapper, it's appreciated! Wow sometimes it's like pulling teeth to get responses or get discussions going on here. I guess my topics are too newbie or boring??

Ask a question about politics or guns, then you'll get a response. Lol
I would put that money aside and wait for a convention. You usually can find some good deals there. If not, then just order them...

I agree with NYredfox if you can get to one of the conventions and see what is available it will be very helpful to talk to the vendors and other trappers before you decide what suits you best because as you will find out very little about trapping is written in stone. That is why these forums are so valuable because even us oldtimers learn a lot on here .

Bridger did an extensive re-design of many of their traps after being bought out by the Cavens
The new #3's now come from the factory with a baseplate that is center swiveled and a stop nut and stainless pan bolt / nut. Two very nice additions
Lots of changes to their bodygrips
Any large trap design is expensive because of tooling costs.
Tens of thousands of dollars to change a die set
