It is a Duke #3 and I am considering using it for coyotes or smaller sized beaver. Is that acceptable for either or do I just sound foolish?

Looks like a good trap to me. Clean it up and it'll be good to go.

As far as I know, the Duke #3 has a 6" jaw spread so it would not be legal for Coyote in NYS. If we do meet up tomorrow, bring it along and I might be able to make it legal by welding some inside lams on it and strengthening the base with a base plate. "

In those pictures I already scrubbed it down with a wire brush and it definetly needs more cleaning. It just feels like its hanging up a little bit, rather slow, and the jaws dont drop when I open it I have to use my fingers to wiggle open the jaws while compressing the springs. Im sure I could dye it, wax it and set it but will it be too slow from the rust is what im worrying about...

Funny, guess you can't assume they are all the same. The only #3's that I had that measured out at 5 3/4" were the rubber jaws. The standard #3 that I bought a couple years ago were 6" so I sold them. Didn't have a tape with me at one of the rondy's

I don't own any to measure, but F&T's site has Duke#3 CS listed at 6".

Thanks woj that vinegar trick worked perfectly... If it is 6" then I can use it on land? So should I just spray paint it and use it in water for beaver?
