Two days ago I made two fox sets. Dug an area in the snow about 4'by4' and plunked dirt holes in. Having a stupid attack, I marked the one that was a ways in the field with a stick right behind the dirt hole. Found it and remade because there was 11\2 feet of snow over it. The ather set was right in the laneway, so I thaught I would be able to find it. No marker, No nothin. You all know where this is goin. Yep, couldn't find it. I shoveled an area big enough to park a truck in and no trap. I probably shouldn't even have posted this but I feel that I'm stupid enough to deserve it. I borrowed a buddies metal detector so I'll look for it. Maybe a red will find it for me. Note to self, PUT A MARKER STICK IN NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!

LOL.. Trust me , we've all done it or something equally forgetful. Like not taking your safety hook off a coni or leaving a spring latched. I could go on and on about things I've done. I've got in the habit now of stepping back... looking things over before I move on..

To bad someone didn't have a grinner you could borrow guaranteed he would find it ;D We have all been there, and more than likely it will happen again before my trapping days are over. Good luck

I bought a metal detector. Harbor freight $50, saves a lot of shoveling.

Yaa no I was going to make some blind sets in the snow. Mabey I'll rethink my plan of attack. Never thought about losing a trap in the snow. I guess it could happen to anyone

We all do it-----especially when we are over 70-----forgot my knife more times that Ill ever admit----- (had my sharpener)----and had to CARRY out a few large beaver----rather than skin them where cough.---There are many more things that I could think of-----that would fall under---A STUPID ATTACK---- but would not want to boar you people with them ---NOW. The one that I work hard-est at ------ is not forgetting the roll of bathroom paper.----its very very important.

LOL ...your not kidding about that one ....I lost two footholds and one coni last year, one foothold i tried using memory...didn't work ,second I had bought a GPS .had it set in sand on a beach for fox....found out that the GPS gets you near but not right on ..Same with my coni.I did the same with buying a metal detector ,only mine was the hand held kind from e bay, wish people would learn to pick up their shot gun shells that are spent....lol Well found my one foothold,Coni took me to the lat day of the season to finally find it.Thank god there was no rat in it.As for the foothold I never marked , well I'm glad the metal traps rust up real fast on tidal wetlands .Doubt that trap will fire now.I have gone back from time to time just to make sure an animal hasn't found it .Sure does stink when you know the general area of your sets but still they vanish into thin air....

Trap found and reset succesfully. I feel like a ton of bricks has been taken off my shoulders. Metal detector worked great. Believe it or not, it was dead center of the area that I had shoveled. Soon as I knocked the crust off the top the trap sprung. Must have stepped over it a million times whilst in my panic mode. Would have never found it without that metal detector. The nice thing is, I've uncovered half the field so I can put another set in .

Here is probably my best stupid attack: Made fisher set on leaning pole picture perfwct set everything just right, checked the set several times all ok but no fisher.About the 5th or6th check stabilizer is on tree but no trap, good must have a fisher.Walk over to tree no trap no fisher everything looks like I made a catch not ripped off. After 40 mins of looking locate trap with very dead fisher in it some distance away.Never fastened trap to tree.

How many times have you fellows-----left your ammo at home---- get to a set location---and find 3 or 4 coyotes--- or beaver ----- waiting for you ----- and every round in your pistol has been fired. ?Now that will give you an empty feeling in your tummy. Or better yet 2 or 3 skunks---setting at the sets with big grins---- jest knowing you dont have a shell with you---and you are 20 miles from home. A-A-A-HHHHHHHHH "THE" smell of skunk----at day light----SURE MAKES THE DAY.

How many of you fellows ------ have left your fire arm ------by your set---and got down the road a few miles and remembered what you forgot. ---BOY YOU ARE GLAD NO ONE WAS THERE----to enjoy that little bit of life with you.

How about hiking a 1/2 mile into one of your favorite hot spots only to realize that you left many of your essentials in the truck....late in the day and no time to hike out and back that day...the things we do.

I've got 2 sets that can not be found. Waiting on a buddies metal detector!!! And yes, I've left my dirt hole shovel, stake driver, hammer and gun at sets. Sometimes all together! Those are the days that make me wonder why the heck I do this to myself. Gotta love it!
