1% Hydrocortisone Cream will work better, BUT don't let it get in the eyes. I picked up poison ivy a couple of weeks ago and it did the trick for me...finally.

Also keep in mind that the rash only spreads from the oil. Touching the rash itself doesn't spread anything that is an old wives tail. So make sure EVERYTHING you used, wore or touched in the field has been thoroughly cleaned.
I used to get poison everything all the time really bad even in the middle of winter. I haven't had it in years. I am uber careful now. Have even had the eye swollen shut thing.
If it gets real bad they can give you a shot and it will dry it out in a few days. Good luck.

Wash or scrub the affected area with degreaser, that will remove the oil that is the irritant in any poison plant. Eg: Ivy, sumac, oak, etc.
If you remove the oil, the irritation will go away.
Google degreaser as poison Ivy cure and it will give you specifics.
