Forecast is for quite a bit of snow starting early evening. Definitely wait. You will only be creating work for yourself.

Guess I'm different. I wanted sets working before, during and after the storm. Guess us " Late Seasoners" just look at it different thats all Brunner Way I see it.....the Traps dont catch Sh@t when they are snapped !! 114 days from start of season to end......may be alot of work at times.....but I only have so many days to feed my adiction ;D

I pulled part of my line... have some seasonal roads that will not get plowed so had to pull.... redid a couple of locations with hay and added a few more water sets. I just wouldn't set if I had none out. would only have to dig them all out. Guess it depends on how much snow was forecast in your area.

I set a few today. The way I look at it is I don't know when it's gonna start snowing and their may be some movement before the storm starts or before it gets to severe. However, after the storm is over there will be some major movement. From the sign I saw while I was out setting today, I wish I would have set Christmas day.

Lol...I hear ya, Snoeblind...and agree if it wasnt set already I would hold....in fact waited on a dozen or more sets to add until after the storm pushes through...but I am with Brunner I freshened my sets up just a bit this morn anticipating this time right now, 4:30 and the storm is just pushin into my area...with the amount of sign I saw today, I too am hoping for some movement before the brunt of the storm!! Although the poor critter may seriously regret it by mornin ;D

Doesn't look like much moved before the storm. Cleaned out a handful of sets this morning. Trail cam had nothing, then again the eye was jammed with snow. We'll see what tonight brings.

Guess I'm different. I wanted sets working before, during and after the storm. we'd all like that... but you can't always get what you want. Land sets made before this 18" snowfall did not work during it and for sure ain't working after it unless you dug them out and reworked accordingly. water sets might be a different story, but land sets don't work thru it all

We only got 5 inches here which wouldve made any set I could have had out DEADLY.

We only got 5 inches here which wouldve made any set I could have had out DEADLY. Well, that depends a lot more on what fell rather than how much fell. If it began as a light rain that soaked the surface before snow began, even three inches will put most sets out of action. If it began as a dry powder and continued, most sets might be operable. To my knowledge most areas from western NY to the adirondacks and similar got 10+" of snow. Seeing the "cat sets" reference in your post suggested to me you were northern zone and in the snowbelt area. I don't happen to see a location in your signature so not sure where you are, sorry for the assumption. Maybe your 5" total would have been ideal winter conditions after all The forecast here is a light drizzle = freezing rain tonight and then more snow every day for awhile. Deep and crusted appears to be the conditions here and elsewhere straight ahead. Far cry from frozen ground and nice powder to work with. So it goes

Ahhhh yes, the dreaded wet crap . Makes sense. I'm near the Vermont border in Washington county. Just 5-6 inches here. Since I have no sets out right now tomorrow at least will be a prime time to go find tracks. 18 inches....... I feel for ya.
