What's the best use at dirt holes or do trappers not use BWH at dirt holes? I can understand their use at flat sets or post hole sets, etc. where you can cover with a skiff of snow. But at dirt holes wouldn't they look un-natural? Thank you and Merry Christmas. Christmas Eve Catch....

I have never used them. Always stuck with my waxed dirt. Sorry I can't help you. Merry Christmas

i bed and cover my traps with peat and then a light cover of dry dirt to keep the peat from blowing away. works good for me.

Dear Friend, Ive used buckwheat hulls for years. They work fine at dirt hole sets this time of year......First get off the flat ground and on a slope to leach away water......chop a notch for your trap, handfull in the bed under the trap and cover with hulls. Feather out your pattern so it isnt obvious that the hulls are only where the trap is. Sift just enough dirt or duff over the hulls to keep them from blowing away. Regards

I would suggest that if your worried about the hulls being just at the trap then sprinkle them out very thinly in front of the set say 5 - 6'. or as papabear said sift a thin coat of dirt over top.

More worried about their look being unnatural. I have been successfully using peat, wax dirt and spraying 50/50 poly glycol and water at each layer. Seems to be working but our snow seems to be getting a little deep so I set a few with buck wheat hulls and as papa bear states feathering out the pattern. Guess I needed some verification that what I am doing with the BWH will work. Thank you everyone.

Dear Friend, Critters arent afraid of hulls, just feather them out on your pattern as not to draw attention to the trap bed. You can even put some hulls in your dirt hole and if you use a mousey smelling lure/bait I suspect the fox or coyote think its a mouse nest. Regards
